Shia mourners tear gassed on MA road Srinagar

Srinagar: Government forces on Wednesday tear gassed the Shia mourners to prevent them from taking out a procession on MA road near Dalgate area of Srinagar.

Scores of Shia mourners who started marching from Dalgate area were intercepted by a large posse of police and CRPF on the MA road.

Forces used tear smoke shells to disperse the mourners raising slogans like “Labaik Ya Hussain” witnesses said adding that the mourners later reassembled in the Polo View area of however they were again tear gassed by government forces.

Earlier authorities imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar to foil the traditional 8th Muharram procession.

Muharram processions are banned in Srinagar since 1989 after the eruption of militancy in the state.
