Srinagar: Police on Wednesday detained around a dozen mourners who tried to take out the traditional 8th Muharram procession from this capital city.

Dozens of Shia mourners assembled near the fire service department Batamaloo here and tried to march towards Shaheed Gunj, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

The mourners were shouting ‘Labaik Ya Hussain’ and marching towards Shaheed Gunj, the place from where  8th Muharram procession used to start before culminating at Dalgate.

However, before the mourners could reach there, police swung into action and detained around a dozen mourners before bundling them in their vehicles and whisking them away.
