Pays tributes to Imam Hussain (RA)

SRINAGAR: The joint resistance leadership (JRL) has reiterated appeal for boycotting upcoming municipal and local bodies polls in the state, terming the elections as “drama” and a “political gimmick” by New Delhi to hoodwink the international community.
JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement said the “military power used in Jammu and Kashmir in addition to the paramilitary and state police forces to conduct elections speaks volumes about the civil liberty and other political and social rights of the people”.
JRL said the people of Kashmir are engaged in a movement for right to self determination for which huge sacrifices have been made. “So, the participation in any kind of elections is impossible,” it said.
“The much-hyped elections are a bait to lure the pro-India politicians to change the demography and state subject law and to exploit the economic benefits of the state,” the leadership said.
Meanwhile, Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik paid rich tributes to the Imam Hussain (RA) and termed his sacrifice as “a symbol of bravery to fight tyranny and subjugation”.
“He (Imam Hussain) taught us to differentiate between right and wrong and stand by the right come what may,” JRL said.
The leadership appealed for maintaining unity and brotherhood at the “critical juncture of our history when the occupation forces and other elements with sinister designs are hell bent to drive a wedge in the sectarian harmony under the imperial method of divide and rule”.
The leadership also appealed the learned ulemas from Sunni and Shia schools of thought to shoulder their responsibilities to maintain unity and brotherhood at all levels.
