Police register case into death of newborn
SRINAGAR: Police on Monday registered a case into the death of newborn at Lal Ded Hospital after the family complained of ‘negligence’ of doctors during the delivery.
A female doctor was also physically assaulted and beaten up by attendants after 32-year-old Shaheena of Chadoora, who was admitted at the hospital for last two days, had a stillbirth Monday morning.
Ayaz Geelani, SHO Police Station Rajbagh told Kashmir Reader that he received a complaint from a Chadoora family accusing doctors of negligence during the delivery “which led to the death of newborn”.
“We have already started the investigation in the case after receiving a complaint in the morning,” he said.
However, SHO said he was yet to receive a written complaint from the doctor who is accusing some persons of beating her.
“We are waiting for the doctor’s complaint as well because the details of the incident are not clear,” Geelani said.
Medical Superintendent LD Hospital, Dr Shabir Sediqui, told Kashmir Reader that she constituted a committee of experts and administrators to probe the circumstances that lead to the death of the baby.
“Action will be taken if any negligence was found. But attendants shouldn’t have attacked the doctor. It’s a criminal act and we have filed the complaint against the attendants after a PG doctor approached me,” he said.
According to the complaint, a first-year postgraduate doctor was beaten up by sticks and brooms by some men at the Lal Ded Hospital after the death of the baby. She had received multiple injuries and bruises on her body, as per the complaint.
“The patient conceived after more than four years of marriage and the baby was precious for them and its death enraged them and they attacked the doctor,” a senior doctor said.
