SRINAGAR: Fire broke out at Hotel Pamposh in the city centre in Srinagar on Saturday, engulfing three top stories of the six-story building. Six firemen were injured in the rescue effort, one of them seriously, officials said.
Witnesses said fire broke out in the attic of the hotel located at Regal Chowk at around 1:55 pm. Fire tenders were rushed to the spot, who had a tough time fighting the massive fire. The hotel hosts offices of several television news channels.
An official from the Fire and Emergency department Srinagar said that six firemen sustained injuries. One of the firemen, Abdul Majeed is said to be serious, and was shifted to SMHS Hospital. At the time of filing the report Majid was in the operation theatre for treatment.
The official said that 16 fire fighting vehicles, 12 portable fire pumps and two Bronto sky lifts were pressed into service to douse the fire.
“Our Fire and Emergency teams rushed to the spot to douse the flames,” the official added. “The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.”
