Budgam: Hundreds of villagers from different villages of this central Kashmir district blocked the railway line near Nadipora to press their demand for construction of a separate halt station for their convenient travel.

People from Nadipora, Bandgam and other villagers today morning gathered at the railway track and blocked all trains coming on the Banihal-Baramulla track, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

Led by senior citizens of the area, the protesters said that the separate railway station has been sanctioned a year before but authorities seems not to be in mood to start the work till date.

“We have met all the officials from DC office Budgam to Railway officials many a times for our demand. But their lackadaisical approach prompted us to come out and block the railway track,” a protester told Kashmir Reader over phone.

They added that the Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Syed Sehrish Asgar promised the villagers that work will start in a couple of days but her promises proved to be ‘hollow’.

“Today we have blocked the railway line to remind them of our long pending demands,” they said.
