Shutdown continues in Handwara, protest after Friday prayers

Handwara: A complete shutdown was observed in north Kashmir’s Handwara and Langate towns on Friday against the killing of two local militants – Liyaqat Ahmad Lone of Harwan Sopore and Furqan Rashid Lone of Handwara – iun a gunfight earlier this week.
Shops and other business centres including private schools remained closed on fourth consecutive day on Friday while as public transport was also affected throughout the day.
Local sources said that a large number of people took to streets in Langate town after Friday prayers and staged a peaceful protest march. The protesting people were shouting anti-India and pro-freedom slogans, and dispersed peacefully later.
