Srinagar: At least five civilians sustained injuries as they clashed with government forces at Chowgam village of Qazigund area in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday where a gunfight is underway between militants and forces.
Three militants have already been killed in the gunfight which started last night after forces launched a search operation.
Qazigund hospital sources told Kashmir Reader that they received five injured civilians. Two among them had fire arm injuries. They added that two injured have been referred to district hospital Anantnag and two to Kulgam.
However, some sources said that number of injured civilians was ten including a lady.
Local sources said that scores of protesters assembled around the gunfight site and started pelting stones on forces to disrupt their operation however forces fired tear smoke shells, pellets and even fired bullets to disperse the protesters.
Meanwhile, a spontaneous shutdown is being observed in twin districts of Anantnag and Kulgam against the militant killings in Qazigund area.
Witnesses said that all shops and other commercial establishments are closed in Kulgam and Anantnag while traffic is mostly off the roads.
