MAGAM (BUDGAM): A hailstorm left behind a trail of destruction, leveling standing crops across dozens of villages in Budgam district on Thursday afternoon.
Rice crops, pulses, vegetables and apple orchards took the brunt of sudden precipitation in Magam, Budran, Kawoosa, Kanihama, Mazhama, Narbal and many other parts of the district.
Witnesses said that in second half of day, it started raining, and was followed by the heavy hailstorm.
In a couple of minutes, rice crops, apple orchards, and other vegetation turned into “remnant of grass”, they added.
“Thos is our only sources of income. We request government to assess the loss and compensate us accordingly,” a group of affected farmers said.
