Urges upholding quality standards
SRINAGAR: Director Agriculture Kashmir, Syed Altaf Aijaz Andrabi on Thursday impressed upon the officers to ensure timely availability quality seed in all the districts of Kashmir division, so that farmers may not face any hardships. He said that the field staff should be activated, so that a close vigil can be maintained in terms of sale of quality seeds on ground level.
Andrabi was speaking during a high level meeting of divisional sale rate fixation committee to take stock of the preparations for Rabi season and to fix the sale rate for Rabi seeds including oil seed, oats, wheat and peas, an official handout read.
He impressed upon the officers to visit all the seed sale outlets to ensure that farmers were getting genuine seeds on departmental fixed rates. “Seed is the most important input that decides the cost of cultivation of a particular crop and its market value, therefore, all the possible efforts should be put in by the department to maintain its high standards”, he said.
Andrabi directed the officers of different agencies and allied wings to work with close coordination and commitment for the betterment and upliftment of farming community, read the handout.
During the meeting, the sale rate for different Rabi seeds was decided. As per the details given, the rate for Oil Seed is Rs 3,000/- per quintal, Oats Rs. 3,500/-, Peas Arkel Rs. 4,835/-, Peas Rachna Rs. 3,360/-, Wheat Rs.2,500/- per quintal. It was also decided that the paddy seed will be procured from farmers at the rate of Rs. 2,200/- per quintal. The sale rate for processed honey was fixed at Rs. 500/- per Kg.
