SRINAGAR: While observing Swatchh Bharat Pakhwada, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) in collaboration with Indian Railways on Thursday organised a waste collection-cum-cleanliness drive at Srinagar Railway Station.
According to a statement issued here, volunteer students of the varsity and the employees of the Indian Railways participated in the event. The University organised various programmes, training sessions and drives during Swatchh Bharat Pakhwada with the slogan Swatchhta Hi Seva.
The rally was organised by the volunteer students of the university at the Railway Station with an aim to spread public awareness about the drawbacks of open defecation.
Station Master, Zubair Hamid interacted with the participants and during the interaction he threw light on the importance of Swatchh Bharat Flagship Programme.
Dr Mohammad Sayid Bhat, Nodal Officer, Swatchh Bharat, CUK while interacting with the volunteers highlighted the ways and means to eliminate or reduce open defecation which is one of the main causes of deaths of thousands of children each year. On behalf of Central University of Kashmir, Dr Bhat thanked the authorities of Indian Railway for their collaboration.
