Clashes erupt in Shopian village during search operation

Srinagar: Clashes between protesting youth and government forces erupted during cordon and search operation at Turkwangama village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday.

Local sources said that at around 5am, a joint team of SOG and other government forces cordoned the village and started searches in Lone Mohala, Batpora and Malpora localities of the village.

They said that local youth hit the streets to protest the cordon and search operation while pelting stones on the forces who hit back with tear smoke shells and stun grenades to disperse the protesters.

Both clashes and searches were going on in the village when reports last came in.
