Sopore operation; Drones pressed into service, firing resumes

Srinagar: Firing between hiding militants and government forces resumed in Teeliyan, Arampora area of north Kashmir’s Sopore after a long lull on Thursday.

Earlier forces cordoned off the area after input about the presence of militants and started operation. Brief exchange of firing was followed evacuation of civilian in the area, official sources said.

The firing stopped then and there was a long lull, however firing resumed between militants and forces later, they said.

Local sources said that heavy firing was going on in the area and they also heard some massive blasts.

There were reports of minor clashes as well near the gunfight site where drones have been pressed into service to have vigil on hiding militants, sources added.

Meanwhile local sources said that a complete shutdown is being observed in the apple town and around.

“Two militants are trapped in the area”, a top police official from Sopore informed Kashmir Reader.

Earlier CASO was launched in Arampora area of Teliyan Mohalla after input about the presence of militants, official sources said.

Local sources said that all routes leading towards Downtown Sopore, Arampora, Teeliyan, Batpora, Jamia Masjid and other areas have been sealed and heavy deployment of government forces was in place around.
