Srinagar: The Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Wednesday greeted Muslims on the beginning of New Year of Hijri calendar 1440 and said the first month of Islamic calendar – Muharram is another opportunity for introspection of our deeds.
Mirwaiz in a statement said, “Muharram gives us the message that sacrifice and selflessness are integral to the message and practice of Islam which we have to imbibe in our lives in order to succeed in the real sense.”
The Hurriyat chairman who is also the chief of Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema said that given the countless difficulties being faced by the Muslims across the globe including the people of Jammu and Kashmir, “Muharram provides us a great opportunity to learn from the history of Islam and sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and to stick to the path of righteousness and justice.”
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of Hurriyat in a statement said that on the directions of Mirwaiz, a party delegation led by Mushtaq Sufi visited the SSA teachers who are on a hunger strike at Pratap Park and expressed solidarity with them. The delegation said instead of resolving the genuine issues of SSA teachers, the government is adopting iron fist policy. “It is responsibility of the government to address the genuine issues of the SSA teachers,” the delegation said.
Mirwaiz also expressed heartfelt condolence over the demise of Kulsum Nawaz, the wife of former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharief. He extended solidarity with the bereaved family.
