Gunshots heard in Kakriyal Jammu during search operation

Srinagar: Militants have been tracked in a residential house at Kakriyal area near MataVaishnoDevi University, following a massive search operation since yesterday firing incident along the Srinagar-Jammu highway, sources said on Thursday.

They said that government forces are evacuating local population from the area to avoid hostage situation.

“Gunshots have been heard in Kakriyal area in Jammu,” ANI reported.

“Security forces conduct search operation as gunshots heard in Jammu’s Kakriyal. Yesterday, terrorists travelling in a truck, opened fire at a forest guard & fled from the spot,” ANI further reported.

Sources said that two forces personnel have sustained injuries in initial firing with militants. They also said that Tikri-Jammu highway has been closed for traffic.

At least three militants were on a truck when they fired on forces yesterday. They then abandoned the vehicle and vanished into the thick bushy forest. The police have detained the driver and helper of the truck.

A search operation was undertaken to trace three militants who fired at a CRPF trooper and a forest guard on the Jammu-Srinagar highway in Udhampur district before escaping.
