Ganderbal police claims arrest of militant, handler

Srinagar: Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a militant and an alleged handler in Ganderbal area of central Kashmir.

Talha Umair alias Abu Hamza, who had joined militancy earlier this year, was detained from Sehpora area of Ganderbal with persistent efforts of District Police Ganderbal and his family, a police official said in a statement issued here this evening.

The spokesperson also claimed arrest of his alleged handler Ishfaq Ahmad Dar, who persuaded him to join militant ranks.

The spokesperson said that a few more arrests are also expected in coming days.

“Moreover, Talha Umair alias Abu Hamza has been found to be involved in the weapon snatching case at Hazratbal earlier this year. Investigation pertaining to the said case is also in progress,” the spokesman added.
