Srinagar: J&K High Court Bar Association Srinagar on Wednesday welcomed the statement of new UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet criticising the Government of India for not heeding its report on Kashmir.
In a statement, the Bar said, “The remarks of Bachelet has very rightly stated that the people of Kashmir have same rights to justice and dignity as people all over the world, which should be respected by everyone.”
“The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has urged India and Pakistan to take meaningful action on addressing issues highlighted in its report on human rights violations in Kashmir,” the association stated.
The Bar Association also condemned the killing of an Islamic scholar – Abdul Ahad Ganai by unknown gunmen and demanded investigation.
While denouncing the use of force against the SSA teachers, the Bar said instead of heeding to their demands, the authorities are putting them behind bars, which is highly condemnable.
