Srinagar: Government forces have started a massive combing operation along the strategic Srinagar-Jammu highway near Jhajjar Kotli in Udhampur district after suspected militants attacked a checkpoint this morning.
Unidentified militants fired shots at government forces manning a checkpoint in Jhajjar Kotli area when a truck they were travelling in, was signalled to stop, official sources told Kashmir Reader.
The militants, they said fled from the spot after attacking the government forces.
During search of the truck, sources said one AK-rifle, 3 magazines were recovered by the forces.
The truck driver and the conductor have been taken into custody, as additional reinforcements have been rushed to the area, where a massive search operation has been launched.
Official sources believe that 2-3 militants are on run around Suketar village near Katra crossing. The security around Vaishno Devi shrine has also been beefed up after the surprise militant attack.
SSP Jammu, Vivek Gupta told Kashmir Reader that militants attacked the forces when the truck was being searched at the checkpoint.
