Congress says situation not conducive for Panchayat, ULB polls

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress on Wednesday said that the situation in the state was not conducive for holding Panchayat and local body polls.

Addressing a press conference after party’s core group meet, state Congress Chief Ghulam Ahmad Mir said that the Panchayat and Municipal polls were declared in Jammu and Kashmir without taking stock of the ground situation situation in Kashmir.

He said that New Delhi and the Governor’s administration in the state should clear stand whether they want to conduct elections or it was just a gimmick.

On Tuesday JKPCC held two meetings to discuss the situation in view of the elections, however, sources said that nothing could materialize. The JKPCC delegation also met Governor Satya Pal Malik at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday.

National Conference and the PDP have announced to boycott the polls.
