Violent protests break out in north Kashmir’s Langate

Baramulla: Violent protests have erupted in Langate area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, where two local militants were killed in a fierce gun-battle with government forces this morning.

Scores of people in Langate hit the streets and staged a protest this morning when news spread that one of the two militants killed in Galoora village was a local youth identified as Furqan Ahmad, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

Chanting pro-freedom slogans, angry protesters clashed with the government forces by pelting rocks at them.

“Government forces burst tear smoke shells to disperse protesters. However, the protesters remained defiant and continued renewed attacks on government forces,” witnesses said.

The clashes were going on when this report was filed.
