Srinagar: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Monday directed Director General (DG) Prisons to file a report on the arrest and Public Safety Act on a Hurriyat activist, Umar Adil Dar.
Taking note of an application submitted by the rights activist Muhammad Ahsan Untoo about PSA on Hurriyat activist Umar Adil Dar, SHRC member Dilshada Shaheen issued a notice to DG prisons asking him to file a detailed compliance report before the commission by Sep 25.
The SHRC asked DG prisons to file report of compliance that includes grounds of detention under which Umar Adil Dar has been arrested and lodged in Kathua jail.
The petitioner states that on August 1, 2018, Dar went to Anantnag court for a hearing of his case where he was arrested by the police and later slapped with the PSA and shifted to Kathua jail.
The petitioner pleaded that in Kathua Jail, Dar has been lodged with the dreaded criminals which poses a big threat to his life. He stated that if anything happens to Umar, entire blame will lie on the shoulders of jail superintendent.
