Militant brother’s killing turns Sopore girl’s wedding into mourning

Sopore: One among the two militants killed in a gunfight with government force in Galoora area of Handwara area of Kupwara was a resident of Harwan village of Sopore.

The slain militant had joined militant ranks in the month of July by announcing it on social media with a picture with AK-47 in his hand, a common trend used by new age militants to announce their joining of militant ranks. He went missing in the month of February of this year.

The slain militant identified as Liyaqat Ahmad Lone son of late Ghulam Mohidin Lone a resident of Lone Mohalla, Harwan village was around 32 years old and had spent around two years in different jail earlier.

While his brother had been married yesterday and the sister was going to get marry today, “ A day of celebration has turned into mourning when his family members received the news of Liyaqat’s killing in an encounter”, a relative of Liyaqat informed on phone.

Liyaqat was a father of three children and got married in December, 2008.

By the news of Liyaqat’s death, a marriage ceremony of his sister has been cancelled.

Earlier Liyaqat had spent around two years in jail under police as well as cargo custody on the allegation of involvement in militant activities, relative added.
