Clashes break out in north Kashmir’s Sopore town

Sopore: Violent protests broke out this afternoon in this north Kashmir township against the killing of two militants in a firefight with government forces in the neighbouring Kupwara district.

Groups of youth, including students of the degree college assembled at Main Chowk and Iqbal Market here and staged pro-freedom demonstrations, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

Angry protesters pelted rocks at the government forces, who were deployed to maintain law and order.

The government forces, witnesses said lobbed tear gas canisters to disperse the protesters.
