Kangan: Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday while addressing a workers convention here said the situation is not favourable for conducting local body polls in the state and the party’s priority is to protect Article 35-A which stands challenged in the Supreme Court.
Mehabooba said that she is hopeful that the Governor Malik would convene all-party meet to seek views from all political parties over holding urban local body and Panchayat elections in the state
“Protecting special status of JK was her party’s top most priority at this moment,” she said, adding, “Special status of state is protected by the constitution and it cannot be tampered with. We will all fight to protect it.”
PDP chief said that her late father did not form PDP for electricity, roads and water (Bijli,sadak aur pani), but the party was formed to protect people’s interests and safeguard their rights.
