Camp for specially-abled children in Qaimoh turns out to be a damp squib

Kulgam: At a camp for specially-abled children in Qaimoh zone of this south Kashmir district here, the education department has taken no care of any seating arrangement, food or water for these children.

The camp for children with special needs is being organised at the Block Resource Centre which is at the Girls Middle School Qaimoh,

The camp is aimed at assessing the artificial enhancement needs of these children, which will be provided at a later stage.

The education department in Kulgam today called such children from three zones and these children were left unattended for about two hours with officials arriving at their own ease.

“My child has severe disability and cannot even sit or stand. I have been carrying him over my shoulders since 9:00 am,” Muhammad Yousuf, one of the parents told Kashmir Reader.

Others also rued lack of arrangements and even drinking water.

CEO Kulgam Ashok Kumar said he has reached the spot and is overlooking things himself.

“I have made the children sit and food is being arranged for them.  We will take things slow and if any of the children are left out they will be assessed tomorrow, “Kumar said.
