SRINAGAR: Chairman J&K State Human Rights Commission, Chief Vigilance Commissioner and MLA Kulgam on Saturday met Governor Satya Pal Malik at the Raj Bhavan here.
Justice (Retd) Bilal Nazki, Chairman SHRC met Governor Satya Pal Malik and briefed him about the functioning of the Commission.
Governor and Justice Nazki discussed issues relating to steps required to be taken for ensuring against denial of rights to women, underprivileged and weaker sections of the society, and maintenance of proper treatment of prisoners in various jails.
Governor stressed the crucial importance of governance by the Rule of Law and protection of constitutional and fundamental rights of the citizens.
Referring to the high importance attaching to the responsibilities entrusted to State Human Rights Commission, he urged Justice Nazki to make the citizens aware of Commission’s objectives so that its work can be carried out effectively.
P L Gupta, Chief Vigilance Commissioner, J&K and Gazzanfer Hussain, Vigilance Commissioner, met Governor Satya Pal Malik and briefed him on the current status of the work being done by the State Vigilance Commission and the special efforts which are being made to enhance the accountability of the administrative system.
Governor advised the CVC to speed up the processes of the Commission to see that the corrupt elements are effectively dealt with, if transparency is to be introduced in the functioning of the public institutions.
M Y Tarigami, MLA Kulgam, met S P Malik and extended warm greetings to him on his appointment as Governor J&K.
Tarigami discussed important matters with Governor relating to the restoration of peace and normalcy in the state and also raised issues regarding the need to secure balanced development of Kulgam district.
Governor urged Tarigami to continue his sustained endeavours for promoting public welfare and for providing avenues to youth to explore their talents in sports and other extracurricular activities.
