BANDIPORA: A Block Development Office and a Panchayat building were gutted in a “mysterious” fire incident at Aloosa village of North Kashmir’s Bandipora on Friday.
According to the officials, the fire broke out in the dead of night at around 2 am and destroyed all the records in the Block Office. Nothing could be recovered from the devastating fire despite fire tenders coming to douse the flames. According to the officials, the fire spread quickly inside the Panchayat building from where the Block Office used to operate too.
Local witnesses claimed that Lashkar-e-Toyba posters appeared near the incident site, denouncing the local body elections and claiming the Panchayat building had been torched as a “warning”.
However, the police attached less importance to the militant perspective and said that the cause of the fire was still to be ascertained. In this regard, an FSL team has also examined the fire incident site at Aloosa village.
