Srinagar: Two people, including a senior government officer are believed to be dead in a tragic accident at Kolahoi Glacier in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Excise and taxation officer (ETO) Naveed Jeelani and Adil Shah of Alpine Group are presumed dead while another man identified as Hazik suffered minor injury when a group of 9-10 trekkers fell into a crevice at Kolahoi Glacier in picturesque Pahalgam valley of Anantnag district, officials told Kashmir Reader.
Immediately, teams of police, SDRF and local volunteers launched a rescue operations in the area.
“Chief Secretary is personally reviewing the rescue operation and has authorised Air Rescue operation. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has asked Air Force to launch rescue early morning with winching facility,” director Disaster Management Aamir Ali said.
He said that the ground teams were expected to make contact with the trekkers in a few hours.
