JAMMU: District Mineral Foundation (DMF) of Geology and Mining (G&M) Department, J&K, organised a district-level training programme on Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY) here on Thursday.
During her address, Joint Director, G&M, Jammu, Manisha Sarin informed that the PMKKKY scheme aims towards transforming the lives of people living in areas which are affected directly or indirectly by mining, an official handout read.
She said that under the scheme, several developmental and welfare programmes were being implemented in mining affected areas that complement the existing ongoing schemes of state and GoI.
“It also minimises the adverse impacts, during and after mining, on the environment, health and socio-economics of people in mining districts besides ensuring long-term sustainable livelihoods for the affected people in mining areas,” she maintained.
She said that the scheme is meant to provide for the welfare of areas and people affected by mining related operations, using the funds generated by District Mineral Foundations (DMFs). “The objective of this training programme is to aware the officers of the department on the optimal use of the District Mineral Foundation Funds,” she added.
