SHRC seeks report on Pulwama civilian killing

Srinagar: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) Wednesday directed Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pulwama and Anantnag and deputy commissioners of the two districts to file detailed compliance report about a civilian killing and injuries to two other persons on Monday.
Taking note of the application filed by the chairman International Forum for Justice and Human Rights (IFJHR) Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, SHRC chairman Rtd Justice Bilal Nazki directed the SSP Pulwama to file a compliance report into the killing of Fayaz Ahmed Wani of Chew kalan, Pulwama. The SSP was also directed to file report into the case of Arif Ahmed Dar who was critically injured in forces action in Pulwama on Monday.
Fayaz was killed by government forces during a CASO in almost 18 villages of Pulwama district on Monday. He was hit by a bullet in his head and was referred to SMHS Srinagar, where doctors declared him brought dead. Later on one Arif Ahmed Dar was also admitted in hospital after being hit by bullet and is stated to be critical.
Hearing another petition, which stated that one Bashir Ahmad Reshi of Utrusoo Anantnag was thrashed by policemen and beaten to pulp without any reason, Justice Bilal Nazki asked the SSP Anantnag and Deputy Commissioner Anantnag to submit a detailed report before the commission on October 23. The petition pleaded that action be initiated against the security personnels “who beat up innocents day in day out”.
