Anantnag: Government forces late on Tuesday night raided and allegedly vandalised the house of top Hizbul Mujahideen militant Lateef Dar alias Tiger, and beat up his family members, here in Dogripora village of Awantipora in Pulwama district.
Several neighbours of the family were also allegedly beaten up by the forces.
The forces’ action comes days after a faceoff between cops and militants where the cops vandalised the houses of at least half a dozen militants and the militants in retaliation abducted at least 10 members of policemen’s families.
Also, the father of Lateef Tiger and of Hizb commander Riyaz Naikoo were arrested by police following the killing of four policemen in Shopian district.
According to reports, government forces barged into the house of Lateef Tiger at about midnight on Tuesday. They vandalised the house and beat up Lateef’s brothers, family sources told Kashmir Reader.
“Three of Lateef’s brothers were severely thrashed by the forces,” a family source said.
The source said that the forces also entered a few houses in the vicinity and beat up some youths who lived there.
Police refuted the allegations, while acknowledging that an operation was conducted in the area.
“There was a search operation in the area, yes, but no one was beaten and no houses were vandalised,” said SSP Awantipora Zahid Malik.
He said that no one has come forward with any such complaint to the police.
