Baramulla: Residents of several villages of Rafiabad here on Wednesday stated a protest against the non-availability of clean drinking water.

The residents of Makhipora Bala, Dangiwachi and other villages this morning hit the streets and staged a demonstration against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department over the scarcity of clean drinking water in the villages, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

Chanting anti-government slogans, the protesters blocked Baramulla- Rafiabad road. The protesters alleged that they were suffering due to non-availability of drinking water from several days.

“If the department fails to restore water supply in the villages soon, we will launch a massive stir,” the protesters said.

Later, a police party reached the spot and assured protestors that matter will be taken up with the higher authorities.

Following assurances, the villagers called off the protest.
