Srinagar: President Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) , Dr Suhail Naik on Tuesday condemned the brutal attack on a senior doctor by a political party worker in PHC Verinag.
A statement issued here said that the incident happened on intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, when the doctor was examining patients along with paramedical staff in emergency unit.
“The accused person is a political worker and is habitual of interfering in hospital functioning to remain in lime light. The physician doctor was beaten mercilessly by the poltical worker which has resulted in many serious injuries. The doctor was attacked when he was attending patients in emergency,” statement said.
Expressing outrage, President DAK, Dr Suhail Naik in a statement said: “this act of hooliganism against a senior doctor, while discharging his professional duties is unacceptable and shameful. To stay in lime light and to get political mileage these hooligans are hell bent to create fuss in hospitals where they find large gathering of emotionally charged patients and their attendants.”
General secretary DAK Dr Owais H Dar termed the beating of doctors shocking and said that doctors put in their blood and sweat to save lives in extremely difficult conditions.
Vice president DAK Dr Ashraf said that they have been repeatedly asking government to bring an ordinance against violence on doctors as a non- bailable offence.
Government probably is waiting for some big mishap to take place, and then only they will probably act,” he said in a statement.
Meanwhile the statement said that an FIR is being lodged in concerned police station against the accused.
“We request concerned BMO Verinag and CMO Anantnag to pursue this case strongly so that assailants are booked and taught lesson legall,.” Statement added.
