Shutdown, protests in Boniyar
BARAMULLA: A large number of people took to streets in Boniyar tehsil of Uri in Baramulla district, protesting the murder of minor girl who was found dead in a forest several days after she went missing.
Meanwhile, police, which earlier said the girl appears to have been killed by wild animals, Monday said that the girl has been murdered.
A senior police officer told Kashmir Reader that they have the changed the FIR under 363 into section 302 and started investigation.
“Police cannot confirm if she was raped before her death because her lower body was completely damaged,” he said.
He said that earlier the police believed that she might have been be killed by any wild animal, but “now we also believe that she was killed by someone.”
“We found her trouser and sandals in a safe position far from the body and upper clothes wearing, which also indicates that she was killed, however we can’t say whether she was raped before murder or not,” he said.
Earlier in the day, hundreds of people staged a protest against the murder, and blamed the police for failing to failing to trace her after she was “abducted”.
A complete shutdown was observed across the Boniyar tehsil including in the main market. All the shops and other business centres, schools and other private offices remain closed while public transport was also affected.
Nine-year-old Muskan, daughter of Mushtaq Ahmad Ganie of Lari Boniyar had gone missing on August 23 and her family had filed a missing report in police station Boniyar. She was found dead, with lower body mutilated, in a forest area on Sunday, ten days after her disappearance.
The protestors blocked the Srinagar-Muzafarabad highway for some while shouting slogans demanding justice.
“On September 2, Sunday, a local lady went to nearby forests for grazing her cattle and she found the almost decomposed dead body of a child, she informed the villagers who reached the spot along with a police team and identified the body as of Muskan Jan” a relative of deceased said.
“If she was killed by any wild animal, how it is possible that it will damage the lower parts of body. We found her trouser and sandals far from the body, we believe that someone put acid on her body after her killing, that is why parts of her was burnt” another relative, Fayaz Ahmad, said.
Later, a police team along with magistrate reached the spot and assured serious investigation to trace the murderer.
