SRINAGAR: Strongly condemning the killing of a youth Fayaz Ahmed Wani of Chewkalan village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district and injuries to dozens of others, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq-led Hurriyat Conference on Monday termed the cordon and search operations (CASOs) by government forces as the reason for innocent deaths and destruction across south Kashmir.
“In the name of search operations, forces are openly killing people and vandalising the public property,” a spokesperson of the amalgam said in a statement.
He said on one hand, government claims to have undertaken efforts to channelise the energy of youth towards development, and on the other hand, young boys are selectively killed by forces.
The spokesperson said launching a sudden CASO in 18 villages of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district was a ploy to instill fear among the local population to force them into a submission. It said dozens of youth were arrested while as inmates were asked to come out of their homes which is the brazen violation of democratic principles and deserves all condemnation.
He said that soon after the culmination of annual Amarnath Yatra, the south Kashmir villages witnessed every day siege of forces who claim to launch such operations for nabbing the armed youth but bring countless miseries on the common masses.
It was because of the unbridled powers given to forces who are taking full advantage of black laws like AFSPA and barge into the house of their choice, thrash youth of their choice and vandalise property, he said.
“The people of Kashmir especially youth are offering priceless sacrifices for a great and sacred cause and will always protect and safeguard these sacrifices till the ongoing movement reaches its goal,” the spokesperson said.
