Shopian: Government forces last night allegedly went berserk at Kadgam village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district and assaulted civilians and vandalised private property including parked vehicles and windowpanes of residential houses in the village.

Villagers told Kashmir Reader that forces in the dead of last night appeared and beat people “without any provocation” They said neither there was any stone peleting nor any protests on Sunday when government forces were leaving from Laddi operation where militants escaped after brief exchange of fire.

Muhammed Ismail Dar and Sheeraz Ahmad Chopan were the persons “ruthlessly” beaten by forces, locals alleged.

“We were beaten without any reason, they (forces) barged into our house and beat us ruthlessly and damaged our property. There was no militant or any stranger in our house,” Said Muhammed Ismail while talking to Kashmir Reader.

He added that clashes on Sunday took place miles away from their village during an operation.

Many villagers said that they always become victims of forces anger.

Senior superintendent of police Shopian, Sandeep Choudary told Kashmir Reader that he will check the facts before commenting on the issue.

Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Owais Ahmad assured that he will look into the matter.
