Shopian: A civilian was injured in violent protests that erupted this morning in Laddi village here in this south Kashmir district, where government forces and militants are locked in a fierce gun-battle.

Scores of residents of Laddi here hit the streets and staged demonstrations after special operations group (SOG) of police, army’s 44 RR and CRPF troopers started a cordon and search operation (CASO) in the village, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

Angry protesters shouting slogans pelted rocks at the government forces, witnesses said.

“In retaliation, the forces burst tear gas canisters. This led to outbreak of violent protests in the village,” witnesses added.

The pitched battles between the government forces and protesters were going on when the last reports came in.

Witnesses told Kashmir Reader that one civilian was injured after being hit by the pellets fired by government forces.
