Srinagar: The Hurriyat Conference (M) led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Saturday denounced “the policies of repression” adopted by the government across Kashmir, saying it is aimed to muzzle the genuine aspirations of the people.
The Hurriyat spokesperson in a statement said, “One hand various plans have been employed to force the people into submission by crushing their rights, and on the other, the peaceful programs of resistance leaders are being disallowed by using the force.”
Terming the frequent cordon and search operations in various areas of South Kashmir are “totally unjustified”, he said it is aimed at instilling fear among the people to prevent them from demanding their birth right.
The amalgam also condemned the arrest of Kashmiri journalist, Asif Sultan, stating that the act deserves highest forms of condemnation and amounts to assault on freedom of press. “Journalists working in Kashmir have always been targeted for highlighting the oppression on the people of the region over the past three decades,” a spokesperson said and added the Hurriyat demanded an immediate release of the journalist.
