SRINAGAR: Srinagar: The Cluster University (CU), Srinagar has deferred the 3rd semester examinations by a month after protests from the students the exams were being held in a hurry.
The last date for submission of online examination forms has been kept as September 8 by the CU.
The university has announced the semester end examination to being from Sep 17. Now they have been deferred to Oct 15.
Scores of students from the five constituent colleges, who told Kashmir Reader that the class work for the semester started from July 8, complained that the varsity had given them “insufficient time” to prepare for the papers by announcing the examination dates “in a hurry”.
“We are yet to go through the syllabus even as they have not uploaded the same on the website,” a student said.
The students also held a protest demonstration inside the college premises against the CU authorities for rushing through their semester studies.
Another student said that they had attended classes in their 3rd semester “for merely a month or so” while as a particular semester is supposed to be of at least three months.
While they had not completed “maximum portion of our syllabi”, the CU announcing the exam dates was an “injustice to us”, a student studying at the varsity’s Women’s College, M A Road complained.
She said that the concerned varsity officials had announced the date sheet “blindly without knowing the status of our studies”.
Controller Examinations CU, Srinagar Mumtaz Ali told Kashmir Reader that they would re-notify the 3rd semester examination.
The examination, he said would now start “from October 15 instead of September 17”.
Ali, however, said that the last date for submitting the online examination forms would be September 8 as it would save the time of students.
While the class work in a new semester at the CU starts “within 3-4 days”, Ali said that colleges had “consumed much time” during the admission process of 3rd semester.
“We have called the college principals, who said they have started classes from July only,” he added.
