CASO sets off violent protest in south Kashmir’s Pulwama

Srinagar: Government forces burst tear gas canisters and fired warning shots after villagers in Karimabad area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama resisted the cordon and search operation on Saturday night.

A posse of special operations group (SOG) personnel joined by army and CRPF troopers laid a siege around Astan Mohalla locality of Karimabad and launched cordon and search operation (CASO) on Saturday night, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

When the government forces started searches, scores of residents, mostly youth hit the streets and resisted the move.

“Government forces were pelted with rocks by the angry protesters. In retaliation, the forces burst tear gas canisters,” witnesses said.

However, the youth, they said regrouped and continued renewed assaults on the government forces.

“As the clashes turned intense, government forces fired warning shots to disperse the agitated villagers,” witnesses.

The ding-dong battles were going on when this report was filed.
