RAJOURI: President Maulana Azad University Rajasthan, Prof Akhter-ul-Wasey delivered a lecture on Tasawwuf: Ma’ani aur Maainiwiyat at Baba Gulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri here on Thursday.
According to a statement, the lecture was the second in a series of lectures that may follow.
Registrar, Prof Parvez Iqbal gave introduction of the speaker, Prof Wasey, the receipt of Padma Shree for his contribution to communal harmony and inter-religious dialogue in India.
Prof Wasey identified Tasawwuf with tazkiy e nafs, Sulook, Ihsan as Qur’an talks about them. He offered full defense to Tasawwuf and Sufis though not ignoring that certain un-Islamic practices have crept into the contemporary Sufism at some places. He further mentioned the qualities of a Sufi and distinguished between Sufism practiced by some great Sufis as Junayd of Baghdad, Rabia of Basra, Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jeelani, Khwaja Muin-ud-Din Chisti and the likes while vehemently opposing the Sufism that defies the boundaries of Shari’ah, as is practiced by some of the men, who claim to be as sufis. The speaker stressed upon the purification of soul and morals in the techno-savy world where almost all of the things are seen through material benefits.
The lecture was followed by question-answer session where the speaker responded to the queries of the participants from the university.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof Javed Musarrat thanked the guest speaker for his visit to the Varsity.
