BUDGAM: A youth was arrested in Pakherpora area of Budgam district on Wednesday after he “thrashed” and tried to “molest” a girl student inside her school.
The 20-year old youth Nazim Ahmad Dar, son of Manzoor Ahmad Dar of Pakherpora, Charar-i-Sharief was arrested by police shortly after he barged into Government Higher Secondary School Pakherpora here and thrashed a girl student after she resisted molestation bid, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.
The girl student, whose identity has been withheld, fainted due to the shock. She was taken to hospital by her colleagues in an unconscious state.
A school teacher on basis of anonymity told Kashmir Reader that today at around 8:45 am, when the students were arriving at the school, youth hiding behind the gate caught hold of the girl and thrashed her, he said.
“The youth also tore her clothes to molest her,” he said.
“The girl student went helpless and raised alarm, it was quickly responded to by the other students who intervened and rescued her, however, the youth fled from the spot. The girl fell unconscious and was shifted to nearby health centre located inside the school premises and later referred to Srinagar’s SMHS hospital,” he added.
The teacher said that the accused was a habitual offender and had been arrested last week (Aug 20) for beating up a school teacher.
“But what’s surprising is that instead of lockup, this boy is wandering in the market freely. We fail to understand why cops aren’t acting against him,” he added.
In-charge SHO, Pakherpora, Imtiyaz Ahmad told Kashmir Reader that the boy has not attempted molestation but thrashed the girl inside the school premises.
“We have filed a case under Fir No 56/2018 under sections 341, 323, 354-B of RPC and arrested the accused,” Ahmad added
