Violent protests erupt in Qaimoh against militant killings

Kulgam: Several people in Qaimoh area of this south Kashmir district were injured today in violent protests triggered by the killing of two Hizbul Mujahideen militants, including a commander in Anantnag gunfight this morning.

Groups of youth hit the streets in Qaimoh here when news of killing of two Hizb militants, including top commander Altaf Kachroo spread in the area this afternoon, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

Angry protesters chanting slogans, witnesses said, clashed with government forces.

“The government forces lobbed tear gas canisters to disperse the protesters. However, the protesters regrouped and continued renewed assault. The clashes turned fierce,” witnesses said.

They said several people were injured in the ding-dong battles.
