Locals demand FIR against officials, contractor
BANDIPORA: A portion of a pre-settling tank (PST) made functional a few months ago in Bandipora’s Bilal Colony collapsed last night.
The tank had been constructed under a multi-crore source promotion scheme.
Local residents said the inner wall of the tank which stores lacs of gallons of water collapsed last night.
“The contractor has used substandard material while constructing the pre-settling tank and now it collapsed on Tuesday, the collapse has exposed all the tall claims of the authorities,” local residents said.
The incident has created panic among the villagers downhill, who demanded an FIR against the concerned officials and the contractor.
The purpose of the pre-settling tank is to hold large foreign particles or pollutants in the water before being fed to a filtration plant.
The tank stores lacs of gallons of water.
Executive Engineer Bandipora Ghulam Ahmad Bhat confirmed that the inner wall of tank has collapsed and said they have halted water supply to the tank.
“We will ask the designers and the concerned contractor to construct this wall if need be. Meanwhile, we have bye-passed the water supply to filtration plant from where water is supplied to Bandipora town,” Bhat said.
