Srinagar: Militants on Wednesday attacked policemen in south Kashmir’s Shopian, and killed four cops, sources said.
The attack took place near fruit mandi of the town, they said.
Sources in the Shopian District Hospital told Kashmir Reader that two cops were brought dead to hospital.
As per sources two more injured cops who had sustained injuries in the attack, succumbed later taking death toll to four.
Sources said that police party guarding DySP headquarters came under heavy militant firing at Arhama resulting in the killings.
They said that militants also decamped with three weapons of the slain cops.
Police also confirmed the killing of four cops in a tweet. “In a terror strike we lost four boys in
#Shopian. Our tribute to the brave hearts,” the police tweet said.
Police also identified the slain cops as Constable Ishfaq Ahmad Mir, R/O Rafiabad Baramulla, Constable Javaid Ahmad Bhat R/O Panzrat HMT, Srinagar, , Constable Mohammad Iqbal Mir R/O Hudur Chaman Baramulla and SPO Adil Manzoor Bhat R/O Zawoora Shopian.
The area has been cordoned off and searches have been started to nab the attackers.
