ANANTNAG: A bride died on her wedding day, minutes before she was to leave with her husband to her new home, here in Kulgam district of South Kashmir on Monday.
The death of 24-year-old Rafiqa Bano, daughter of Rajwali Deedad, a resident of Waltengoo Naad village in Kond area of the district sent shock waves across the area.
The incident took place at about 6pm on Monday.
As per local sources the mood was celebratory at the Deedad household in Waltengoo after the Nikah ceremony was concluded.
“Following the Nikah, food was served to the groom and his guests,” a family source told Kashmir Reader.
However, when the groom was about to leave along with Bano, she fell unconscious in the courtyard of her house.
Bano was immediately rushed to the local hospital and thereon to the Trauma Hospital in Qazigund. At the Trauma hospital, the doctors declared her brought dead, leaving the family of the girl and the groom utterly devastated.
The whole Waltengoo Naad area and the nearby Panchgam Naad-the groom’s village-have gone into mourning as news reached these villages.
A doctor at the Trauma Hospital confirmed the death.
“We are ascertaining the cause of the death,” he said.
Police meanwhile have taken cognizance of the matter and lodged a case. They however feel that the death was a natural one with no foul play involved.
“We have taken cognizance but prima facie it looks like a natural death. I don’t think there is any foul play. Nevertheless the case will be investigated,” a senior police official told Kashmir Reader.
