Srinagar: Several parts of this capital city, including the commercial hub of Lal Chowk today closed in protest over hearing of a fresh plea in the Supreme Court challenging Article-35A.

All shops, offices and commercial establishments in Lal Chowk and its adjoining areas observed a spontaneous shutdown when the news spread this morning that the Apex Court was hearing a fresh plea seeking abrogation of Article-35A, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

At some places, witnesses said, announcements were made through loud speakers urging shopkeepers to down their shutters to register protest against the fresh plea moved by a BJP spokesperson Ashewani Upadhyay.

Meanwhile, minor clashes have been reported from Soura and Amira Kadal areas of the city.
