Gunfight rages in south Kashmir’s Kokernag, internet snapped

Anantnag: A fierce encounter broke out this morning between militants and government forces in Kokernag area of this south Kashmir district.

In the wee hours today, special operations group (SOG) of police and army laid a siege around Gadol village of Kokernag here and started cordon and search operation (CASO), official sources told Kashmir Reader.

When the search operation was in progress, militants hiding in the village opened random fire upon the government forces.

“The forces retaliated to the fire. The exchange of fire continued for some time,” official sources added.

They said that at least three militants are believed to be trapped in the village.

Meanwhile, authorities have snapped mobile internet service in the area amid apprehensions of law and order.
