SRINAGAR: All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) on Tuesday held a demonstration here against the attempts to abrogate Article 35-A which gives special rights to the permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir.
Carrying banners and chanting slogans, the Sikh members of the committee from various districts of Kashmir assembled at Pratap Park here to register their protest against the attempts being made to abrogate special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik participated in the protest led by the APSCC president Jagmohan Singh Raina.
“The Article 35-A is an emotional issue for all the residents of Jammu and Kashmir. We think New Delhi got the message when whole J&K observed shutdown against the abrogation of the article,” Raina said.
He said BJP is playing politics over the Article 35-A and Article 370 but “we won’t let them succeed in their designs”.
“Every Kashmiri, irrespective of region and religion must stand up in support of safeguarding the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. Sikh community is fully supporting the continuation of Article-35A. We will not remain as mute spectators,” APSCC president added.
Raina extended support for two-day shutdown on August 26 and 27 called by the joint resistance leadership (JRL).
