Srinagar: Jama’at-e-Islami on Monday extended full support to the public movement for safeguarding the special status as granted under Article 35A.
In a statement, spokesperson Zahid Ali said, “Article 35A is not any status of temporary nature which has been given to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, but the result of the promises made to them by the government of India through the UN resolutions.”
He said that the abrogation of state subject laws legally means severance of all ties between the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the government of India, adding “besides this fundamental right, many other economic rights will get trampled by abrogation of this Article”.
“If people living outside JK are allowed to become permanent residents here, it will deprive the natives of their right to decide their political future,” he said.
Jama’at denounced those elements who for their ulterior political goals, are fiddling with it, and appealed people to remain united for this cause.
